PR Implementing a New Tool to Improve Website Accessibility
I’m excited to let you know that SUNY Niagara has acquired the Silktide Accessibility Checker, a powerful browser-based tool that scans web content for more than 200 accessibility issues—things like color contrast, missing alt text, and keyboard navigation problems. Using Silktide will help the college meet SUNY’s April 24 deadline for complying with the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2.
Yesterday, I ran a full audit of sunyniagara.edu using Silktide. This week I am focused on fixing broken links. There are hundreds of them, so I’m using my best judgment right now to remove any that go to outdated external sites, open outdated content, or just don’t make sense anymore.
During this process, please keep an eye on any links you use. If you notice any critical links are missing, then let me know so I can triage the situation.
PDFs will be my next challenge. There are thousands of those. I will write about my approach to handling them in an upcoming SUNY Niagara Today. In the meantime, please reach out with questions about broken links.
