Group Dynamics from the Office to the Classroom and Beyond
Student Services is offering a professional development session by Dr. Matt Bowker from the Student Success Center entitled “Group Dynamics from the Office to the Classroom and Beyond” on Friday, December 5th, at 10:00am in the Enrollment Center Conference Room (A117).
We were all born into, live in, and work in groups. Understanding both individual behavior and organizational behavior, therefore, demands that we attend to groups and the unique dynamics and pressures they impose on themselves and their members.
This brief talk explores the many ways our experience in groups affects us, our work, and our organizations. For instance, I introduce the idea of “the work group” versus what psychologist W.R. Bion called “the basic assumption group”: any group (all groups) guided, at one time or another, by unconscious motives and impulses. Attendees can expect to walk away from the talk with a basic knowledge of the psychoanalysis of groups, particularly in relation to work.
Join us for this very informative session presented by Matthew H. Bowker, Ph.D., QIDP, Cert. Mental Health First Aider.
