In Memoriam: David Brown

Dear SUNY Niagara Community,

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of David Brown, a beloved member of the SUNY Niagara family.

David dedicated 33 years of service to SUNY Niagara as a Mathematics Professor, later earning the distinction of Faculty Emeritus. Even after retiring from the classroom, he continued supporting students as a tutor in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), working alongside his wife, Kay. David’s patience, kindness, and commitment to student success touched countless lives.

Anyone who spent time in ACE likely has a vivid memory of Dave. He could often be found at a small circular table, a math textbook cracked open before him, working through problem sets while preparing to help the next student through the door. When he wasn’t in a tutoring appointment, he was usually walking the room, checking in on students and asking if they needed a hand. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen and supported. He was also a quiet but steadfast advocate for student learning, always making sure ACE was stocked with the latest math textbooks so students had the resources they needed.

For decades, David was a cherished part of our college community. His passion for teaching, his generosity toward students, and his unwavering dedication to SUNY Niagara leave behind a legacy that will not be forgotten. Through his work in the classroom and in ACE, he helped generations of students build confidence, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Brown family, their friends, colleagues, former students, and all those whose lives David touched.

Additional information regarding arrangements and opportunities to honor his memory will be shared with the campus community as it becomes available.

Please join us in remembering David and celebrating a life devoted to education, service, and the success of others.

With deep sadness,

Maher Ghalayini
