It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Professor Cynthia Travers, a beloved member of our adjunct faculty in Business and STEM. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and learning from her.

Professor Travers dedicated over 17 years to SUNY Niagara as an adjunct instructor, joining the college in 2009. She taught courses in business and professional communication, public speaking, and office technology, and she brought a genuine passion for helping students find their voice, both on paper and in person. Students who sat in her classroom didn’t just learn grammar and presentation skills; they learned how to listen, how to connect with others, and how to carry themselves with confidence into their careers.

Professor Travers drew on a rich and varied professional life, including 23 years as a medical transcriptionist and time as a court reporter transcriptionist, to ground her teaching in real-world experience. She earned a Master of Science in Adult Education and a Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Development from Buffalo State University, and remained deeply committed to education beyond our campus as a Community Education Coordinator with the Niagara Wheatfield Central School District.

Colleagues who worked alongside her remember her warmth, her dedication to her students, and the care she brought to every class she taught. Her influence will be felt for years to come in the many students whose communication skills and confidence she helped shape.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. Leo’s Church.
