NEW SUNY transfer policies

The Minimum Grade Policy will require a change in our transfer credit policy, moving the min grade from a C to a D-.  This will necessitate a change in coding transfer coursework, moving from a T grade to a TA, TB, TC, etc grading scheme.  This will allow us to enforce min grades in programs such as Allied Health, Culinary and others.  This may also impact how we transfer in grades such as S/U from other campuses.

‘If a receiving campus allows coursework completed under alternative grading modes (e.g., pass/fail, satisfactory/unsatisfactory) to satisfy requirements when completed in residence, it must also accept equivalent transfer coursework completed under the same or comparable grading modes.’

Timeline from SUNY: ‘Beginning fall 2026, campuses are expected, through established shared governance bodies, to review and, as appropriate, reaffirm, revise, or establish policies to align with the requirements outlined above. All such policies must be adopted by June 30, 2027.’

The Exam Policy allows us to accept AP scores below 3 or IB HL scores below 4.  Our current policy does not allow this, but we can choose to be more lenient if desired.

‘Minimum Score Thresholds  1. Campuses shall award undergraduate credit for Advanced Placement (AP) examinations with a minimum score of 3, except as otherwise expressly provided in this policy.  2. Campuses shall award undergraduate credit for International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level (HL) examinations with a minimum score of 4, except as otherwise expressly provided in this policy. ‘

Lower Score Acceptance  1. Campuses may, at their discretion, award credit for AP scores below 3 or IB HL scores below 4, where supported by academic standards and campus policies.  2. Campuses may, at their discretion, award credit for any IB Standard Level (SL) examination, as determined to be appropriate through faculty review.

Timeline from SUNY: ‘Beginning fall 2026, campuses are expected, through established shared governance bodies, to review and, as appropriate, reaffirm, revise, or establish policies to align with the requirements outlined above. All such policies must be adopted by June 30, 2027.

Both policies will be reviewed by APS in Fall 2026 to ensure we are aligned with SUNY.
