SUNY Niagara Print Initiative

Campus Community,

A quick update on the Print Initiative:

  • Toshiba has informed us that the remaining twenty-six (26) HP devices are en route to SUNY Niagara.  While a firm delivery date is not yet available, the current estimate is mid-July.
  • SUNY Niagara’s print policy sets the default print queue to duplex (two-sided) and grayscale – printing in color costs approximately 6x more than black and white.  However, SUNY’s project consultants have advised that many applications, especially Microsoft Word, tend to retain the last used print settings.  This means that if a user modifies the settings for one print job, those changes may carry over to future jobs unless manually reset.  Additionally, some users may experience settings reverting to a printer’s factory defaults.

To ensure compliance with our print policy, we recommend the following steps when printing:

  1. Select SUNY Niagara Secure as your printer
  2. Click Printer Properties
  3. On the Printing Shortcuts tab, select EcoSMART Settings
  4. Under the Color tab:
    • Check Print in Grayscale
    • Uncheck HP EasyColor
