Website Top 10 for May
One of the things that the Office of Public Relations and Event Management learned through the website redesign process is that for many of our colleagues, the website remains a bit mysterious. For instance, in meeting after meeting, attendees were surprised to find out that about 50 webpages account for roughly 75% of all site traffic.
With that in mind, here’s a list of the top 10 most visited pages on the college’s website in the month of May. Each of the pages’ URLs begins with https://www.sunyniagara.edu. The page names below are what comes after that:
- /
- suny-niagara-banner-web/
- /courses/
- /oit/brightspace/
- /academics/evaluation/
- /apply/
- /admissions/
- /nfci/savor/
- /academics/
- /programs/
Looking at this list through a web development lens, here’s what we see. First, the “/” page is the homepage, which we’d expect to sit in the pole position every month.
After that though, the second most visited page was the gateway for Banner log on. This may correspond to the end of the semester, which prompts a lot of activity in Banner. The same can be said for “/academics/evaluation/,” at No. 4, which is the front door of Degree Works.
This means that, at least for May, employees are responsible for traffic to two of the five most visited pages. This situation is an artifact of the inclusion on the college’s website of content that doesn’t need to be externally facing. While it’s common for schools to implement portals for employee to access internal resources, SUNY Niagara has yet to do this.
In the months to come, we’ll decode other items on this list. In July, we will tackle the question: Is /nfci/savor/ really one of the most “hit” pages?
