Former Niagara head coach Puzan joins Thunderwolves’ staff

Former Niagara University head softball coach Larry Puzan will volunteer as SUNY Niagara’s pitching coach for the 2025-26 season, Thunderwolves head coach Jenna Koch announced Tuesday. Puzan joins the Thunderwolves, which finished 5-26 last season, and will also host pitching clinics and camps at SUNY Niagara during the offseason.

Puzan joins SUNY Niagara after spending 13 seasons (12 full) as Niagara’s head coach, recording 154 wins and three trips to the MAAC Softball Championship.

Barr heads to North Star State, picked in fifth round by Minnesota Twins in MLB Draft

Cheektowaga resident Matt Barr was selected by the Minnesota Twins as the 149th overall pick during the fifth round of the 2025 MLB Draft Monday in Atlanta. Barr is now the 10th player drafted directly from SUNY Niagara — formerly known as Niagara County Community College — since the program began in 1967 and the highest selection since Jon Roth was taken 134th by the Washington Senators in the January 1969 MLB Draft.

Clingersmith named an ABCA/ATEC Regional Coach of Year for ninth time

For the ninth time in his tenure, SUNY Niagara baseball head coach Matt Clingersmith was selected as the North District recipient of the NJCAA Division III Coach of the Year award Tuesday. The honor was presented by the American Baseball Coaches Association and ATEC for its NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division and high school categories.
