Why Throwback Thursday? Because Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) language and guidance were added almost nine years ago (on January 18, 2018) to the revised Section 508 Standards of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Q: What is the background/reason for the Electronic & Information Technology (EIT) effort? 

A: Community members, employees, and students should not have to disclose that they have a disability and need accommodations in order to access digital content. Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Health and Human Services (HHS) Section 504 requirements, and New York State law require that institutions ensure that digital content and mobile applications are accessible to individuals with disabilities from the start, rather than through accommodations.
