Faculty & Staff ASL Professional Development Opportunity
Beginning May 18, all faculty and staff will have access to a customized, self-paced American Sign Language (ASL) course in their Brightspace accounts. SUNY Niagara ASL instructor Amy Crockford has created this course with common college words and phrases that everyone should know when working with a person who is deaf or hard of hearing who uses ASL for communication. Learn the alphabet, department information (financial aid, records, OIT, admissions, etc.), faculty words/phrases (office hours, syllabus, exams, etc.), days of the week, and how to sign the time of the day. After finishing the video-based lessons, participants will construct a few sentences with words and phrases they’ve learned, and will receive individualized feedback from Amy and a certificate of completion.
