Free Google Certificates at SUNY

SUNY is thrilled to announce a new partnership between SUNY and Google that brings free access to Google AI Essentials and Google Prompting Essentials to all SUNY students, faculty, and staff through the Coursera platform.

This initiative advances SUNY’s commitment to AI literacy and aligns with the updated SUNY General Education Framework competency in Information Literacy, which now explicitly includes artificial intelligence. Beginning in Fall 2026, AI literacy will be a required core competency for all incoming undergraduates.

Courses Available

Google AI Essentials

Build a strong foundation in artificial intelligence and understand how it’s transforming industries. Earn a Google-issued certificate upon completion.

Google Prompting Essentials

Learn how to effectively communicate with AI tools using prompt engineering techniques, with hands-on exercises for both academic and workplace applications.

Supporting SUNY’s General Education Goals

SUNY’s AI for the Public Good Fellows (to be announced) will support faculty and instructional designers in:

·    Designing courses and learning activities aligned with the new Information Literacy competency.

·    Creating assessments that teach students to critically evaluate AI-generated content.

1.  Create a free Coursera account using your SUNY email address.

·    Already have an account linked to your SUNY email? You’re all set—no need to create a new one.

2.  Learn at your own pace and earn your certificate from Google—at no cost.
