Men’s basketball back on top of region

Sophomore Jalen Duff connected on a free throw with 0.9 seconds remaining to lift top-seeded and host SUNY Niagara to a 71-70 victory over Monroe Community College in the Region III Div. II championship game on Sunday afternoon. It is the program’s fourth regional title in the past five years.

The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 14 in the most recent NJCAA Div. II poll, improved to 25-5 overall. The No. 12 Tribunes dropped to 22-5.

Freshman Chioke Marshall led the T-Wolves with a game-high 31 points. Duff, meanwhile, finished with 16 points and four assists. Sophomore Daniel Reyes chipped in eight points and eight rebounds in the win.

SUNY Niagara advances to Saturday’s East A/B District Championship.
