EIT Compliance Deadline Update
You may have seen recent news coverage indicating that the federal DOJ deadline related to EIT compliance has been extended by one year.
At this time, SUNY has advised us that this reported federal extension does not necessarily change our current obligations under New York State requirements and HHS expectations. Until we receive definitive guidance confirming otherwise, SUNY Niagara should continue moving forward under the current compliance plan.
For that reason, the EIT Committee wants to encourage everyone to stay the course. The work that has been happening across the College has been important, meaningful, and necessary, regardless of whether the formal deadline shifts. This effort has never been just about checking a box for compliance. It is about improving access, strengthening our courses and materials, and better serving our students.
We know many of you have been putting significant time and effort into this work, and that progress matters. Please do not interpret the current news as a reason to slow down or assume that the work was done unnecessarily. There is a great deal of positive momentum happening, and we appreciate the care and commitment faculty and staff have shown.
We will share additional information as soon as SUNY provides clearer direction. In the meantime, please continue with your accessibility efforts as planned.
Thank you for all you are doing.
