In Memory of David Brown
Dear SUNY Niagara Community,
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of David Brown, a beloved member of the SUNY Niagara family.
David dedicated 33 years of service to SUNY Niagara as a Mathematics Professor and later earned the distinction of Faculty Emeritus. Even after retiring from the classroom, he continued to support students as a tutor in the Academic Center for Excellence, working alongside his wife, Kay. David’s patience, kindness, and commitment to student success impacted countless lives.
Those who spent time in ACE likely have a vivid memory of Dave. He could often be found seated at a small circular table with a math textbook cracked open in front of him, working through problem sets and preparing to help the next student who walked through the door. If he wasn’t in a tutoring appointment, Dave was often walking through the center, stopping to check on students working through math problems and asking if they needed assistance. He had a remarkable ability to make students feel seen and supported. He was also a steadfast advocate for student learning, always ensuring ACE had the latest mathematics textbooks available for students to use as references and study resources.
For decades, David was a cherished part of our college community. His passion for teaching, generosity toward students, and unwavering dedication to SUNY Niagara leave a legacy that will not be forgotten. Through his work in the classroom and in ACE, he helped generations of students build confidence, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Brown family, their friends, colleagues, former students, and all those whose lives were touched by David.
Additional information regarding arrangements and opportunities to honor David’s memory will be shared with the campus community as it becomes available.
Please join us in remembering David and celebrating a life devoted to education, service, and the success of others.
