Women’s Basketball plays in Region III Div. II championship Sunday, looks for eighth consecutive crown

SUNY Niagara Women’s Basketball looks for an eighth consecutive NJCAA Region III Div. II championship since 2019 when it hosts the tournament Saturday and Sunday in Sanborn. Monroe CC faces Jamestown CC in the semifinal at 1 p.m. Saturday, while the top-seeded Thunderwolves await the winner in the championship at 1 p.m. Sunday.

SUNY Niagara ended the regular season with a 15-9 record and went 7-3 since the start of the calendar year. The Thunderwolves have posted 10-win campaigns in 13 of the last 14 seasons (since 2012-13).

Freshman Azriel Hall is tied for 15th among all NJCAA Division II players at 20.0 points per game. Sophomore Isabella Karabetsos is 12th with 6.0 assists per game. Sophomore Atarah Walker is inside the top 60 with her team-high 9.3 rebounds per game. 

SUNY Niagara is 6-2 in Sanborn this season. Over the last 10 seasons (since 2016-17), the Thunderwolves are 95-9 in Niagara County and have won 56 of 60 home games since the 2021-22 campaign. SUNY Niagara has won at least 10 home contests in each of the last four years and five times overall in the 10-season span.
